Q

sanborn fire insurance maps

I'm doing genealogical research on my family's roots in Chicago, and I'm looking for Sanborn fire insurance maps available on-line. According to ProQuest, Drake has a subscription for the Sanborn maps, but I can't find any reference to the maps in the library website, other than articles about them. Do you have access to any of the Sanborn digitalized maps? Des Moines Public Library only has access to Iowa maps, and the only other collection of Chicago maps I have found is an incomplete collection at the U of Illinois C/U. Any help appreciated.

Answer

Although we own a few resources provided through ProQuest, Drake does not have access to the Proquest Digital Sanborn maps database.

University of Iowa is supposed to have access to this database.  I would contact the library there concerning any access for non-affiliated persons.

Library of Congress has not digitized any of the Chicago maps:

Please see:

for additional resources.

Thank you.
